Ladylike, the word that once described the refined girls from society, raised studying music and arts while waiting to have a good marriage, is still much in vogue today. The meaning of course has changed over decades departing from the idea of a woman who should be instructued by acceptable social norms that restrain freedom.  Appearance as the only expression of one’s self has long gone together with the uncomfortable corset dress and full skirts with infinite layers of the early 1900.  The New Look by Dior in 1947 was a revolution but still not the one that expected women to be active in their daily life. It was the 60s that really turned a woman’s fashion world upside down by breaking traditions and mirroring social movements that gave us women the choice to own our style together with our lifestyle. While the 70s were all about peace and love, the 80s a pop of color and the 90s were a rejection of fashion through t-shirts and jeans. Now that the rebellion is over we can go back and rediscover the full-skirted day dresses, lower heels, pastel colors  all throwbacks from the 50s and dress ladylike while giving a message of strength and character. We can embrace our feminity without having the silhouettes diminish our presence and power.

For the second look of Milan Fashion Week I felt like splashing some color over the grey days of Milan wearing prints and bright yellow for my ladylike look. The ladylike version of a 21st century woman who is fashionable but not funky while wearing the Omega Ladymatic watch that perfectly embodies with its history and design the modern meaning of chic. Designed first  in the 50s it was one of the first women’s watches that were self-winding. At the time the complicated movements were developed only for men and a woman’s watch was more of an embellished bracelet that could also tell time, with more importance given to the outside design than to the mechanism itself. Omega has now revived this legendary watch with a new original design that makes a fashion statement, providing also a beating heart made of the Co-Axial movement which is one of the best mechanical movements ever developed. By doing so they have recognized that women today go past the appearances and appreciate the innermost value.

During Milan Fashion Week I’ll be styling 5 Omega watches, all with a distinctive design, within my daily outfits. Check out the first post featuring the Omega Aqua Terra watch styled for a business chic look.
