It was a French magician in 1902 that first gave us a visual idea of what would it be like travelling to the Moon. Illusionist Georges Méliès filmed ‘A trip to the Moon‘ (Voyage dans la Lune) showing a group of astronomers traveling with a cannon propelled capsule that lands on the Moon’s eye. A 17 minutes short film full of DIY special effects that has entered the history of cinematography. Looking back it is funny that it took a magician to create the first trip to the moon, showing how at the time such an accomplishment was seen as the impossible dream. Fast forward 67 years we had our first real landing and when Armstrong made his first step, it felt like every person had finally touched the Moon. It took lots of work, and huge developments in science but most importantly it took dreamers who had made their life mission to get closer with the universe.
Since those nights spent looking at the stars through my telescope, years have passed and life has taken over childhood dreams. But I get to have a piece of the Moon with me through the Omega Speedmaster, otherwise known as the Moonwatch for its presence on the six lunar missions made by the NASA including the first walk on the Moon. For Milan Fashion Week I wore the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of The Moon, a tribute to the Apollo 8 mission that had its astronauts be the first people ever to see the dark side of the moon. The all black watch is made of zirconium oxide ceramic dial and case, with a black nylon fabric strap and ceramic buckle. Once again a watch designed for men, but that was a perfect fit for me while wearing a strong look with a Drome leather jacket and Stella McCartney ankle boots. Luckily a design thought for men cannot stop us women from wearing the Omega Speedmaster, the watch that has gone on the greatest journeys of humankind.
