Back to Fashion Business

OMEGA IN MOVEMENT

Milan Fashion Week might seem fun looked from the outside but for most of the people who run around for a week of runway shows, collection presentations, and events this is real work. You might not consider a real job sitting at a show and writing about it, but actually Fashion Week is not just about written reviews on magazines. For the designer, a runway show or a presentation, is the way to show his work of the last 6 months while collecting feedback from journalists and buyers. This feedback plays an important role on the business itself because it gives the opportunity to make sound decisions on what goes on production and then in the stores in September. Stylists attending Fashion Week are already planning their next shoots for Fall Winter 2014/2015, which will be photographed starting from the end of the week taking advantage of the cold weather. Buyers will be already ordering their favorite pieces, usually this happnes the day after the runway show. Journalists will be writing the reviews now, and will start planning all the editorial line for their own magazines. Not even celebrities are there for mere fun. They attend shows as part of a contract agreement they have signed to represent the brand through ad campaigns, show sponsoriships for singers or a one-off offer to just attend the show and give interviews. Of course many think Fashion Week is just fun because everyone will be all smiles even today with the non-stop rain but once the lights are out everyone goes back to fashion business.

As a reminder to myself that this week is all about work, for the first look of Fashion Week I went business chic. I’ve never managed to do the grey tailleur thing even when I worked in a bank so of course my business attire would include feminine details like the flower ruffles on the Maison Albino jacket. The only accessory for the look is the Omega Aqua Terra in a blue dial which is a classic timepiece. A masculine watch that tries to be descreet but captures the attention of the keen eye when worn on a woman’s wrist. I’ve always had this fascination with man watches that seem to be a signiture of power and being all about empowerment of myself and others I ironically have incorporated the power watch in a feminine look. The Aqua Terra 150 M Omega Co-Axial 41,5 mm to me has a vintage flair with a design that I’ve grown loving as a child worn by my father when he was sharply dressed.

During Milan Fashion Week I’ll be styling 5 Omega watches, all with a distinctive design, within my daily outfits. I want to take you on the journey of discovering together the accessory that isn’t used anymore only for its primary function of telling time but has acquired so many other meanings through design and technology.
