When in Vienna I feel like getting inside the scenes of some of my favorite movies. Think 1934 Hitchcock’s Waltzes from Vienna, 1942s noir The Third Man, 1983s Cannes Festival winner The Piano Teacher, the love story on 1995 Before Sunrise, and 2006 The Illusionist all had this beautiful city as the background to their stories. And I can understand why. Vienna is a living postcard from the past, with a history of king and queens, with a love for opera and waltz. There was a moment in my life that I was about to move here and I couldn’t have been happier, things changed and the move didn’t happen but still my love for this beautiful city remains strong. Add to all of this beauty the fact that Vienna is the city with the highest standard of living in the whole World and you might as well think of moving here.
Another movie that is set in Vienna and tells the story of one of Klimt’s most famous paintings, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is Woman in Gold. A 2015 movie with Ryan Raynolds and Dame Helen Mirren that tells the true story of how many Jewish families lost their collections of artworks to the Nazis to find them later hanged in the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. While you can still find Klimt’s The Kiss at the Belvedere Museum, Adele is now located in the Neue Galerie in New York. watch the movie and you’ll love it.
