Since I visited Barcelona few years ago nothing has changed apart from the city bikes and the bike dedicated streets. I took the opportunity to spend a whole afternoon around the Ciutat Vella (the old town) and ride by the beach till the city limits. From my hotel room I could see a strange object far away and I made it my mission to discover what it was just to find out after a 30 minutes of cycling that it was a huge photovoltaic park. It is located on Grand Via de Fira and is one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic farms in the world. On my way to the photovoltaic park i also so for the first time the amusement park located on the beach. It was a pity I did the bike ride the day before leaving, because I would have loved to visit the amusement park by night when it is fully operative.
The Olympic Port is also a must see place with some of the best fish restaurants located here. Getting inside the old town a visit to the Parc de la Ciutadella is also a must, with its modern art and old sculptures mixed together and put around the little lake. You always get to see the lake of the park in movies shot in Barcelona. They usually use it for romantic scenes by putting a couple on the rented boats. It wasn’t as romantic as in the movies though when filled with 40 boats.
I would definitely recommend having a tour of Barcelona by bike. It takes a little planning of the routues so that you can see as many things as possible, but is very doable. After the 6 hours spent exploring the city by bike I think I’ll consider renting one even for my other planned trips this year.
