Park Guell

BARCELONA, SPAIN

Park Guell isn’t just a park, you can’t actually do many of the activities you would do in a normal park given that it is located on a rocky mountain and filled with vegetation. You can do just two activities, one is visit the open air museum of Antoni Gaudi’s works around the monumental area, the second is having a picnic with the view of Tibidabo at the designated area. At the picnic area you find all the spanish families spending a quiet Sunday with their children and on the monumental area you find the usual touristic chaos. I did both, getting my picnic basket from the a bar outside the park gates filled with small tapas-like sandwiches, fresh juice and brownies and having 2 hours of total relax immersed in the nature. The idea was to wait for the right time to visit the monumental area. Usually the perfect time would be in the late afternoon where everything gets quiet and you can really enjoy the sunset from the main terrace. Having Park Guell all for me was definitely a different kind of experience. All tourists hate other tourists, the secret to avoid the chaos is always ask the local people on the best times to visit monuments.
