The journey on the transbordador which is taken from the old port ‘Port Vell’ of Barcelona isn’t for the faint hearted. First of all it was build in 1929 for the Barcelona Expo so it is old and it looks old. It takes 10 minutes to go from the Barceloneta to the Montjuic hill but to me it felt like forever. The journey gives a bird’s eye view on the port, the Colombus monument, la Rambla, Torre Agbar and the Sagrada Familia.
This is the firt time I went up the Montjuic hill. The idea was to visit the castle which is featured on the books of Carlos Ruiz Zafon as the prison where David Martin and Fermin Romero de Torres were imprisoned. It was build in 1694 and during the centuries has been used both as a fort to protect Barcelona and a prison. Immersed in a beautiful park, after coming down from the port funicular we went up the hill by foot and it was quite a hike. Today it is still considered a main point for the protection of Barcelona, but people are allowed to visit. The views from the castle are breathtaking and a museum can be found which has a different historic themes during the year. Going downhill after the visit you can follow a route which brings you to the Olympic Stadium and than to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya making it a full day of interesting visits.
